public or private land?

Hi,

Some "private property" signs were recently posted on the trails off Lomida (where you see all the junk cars).  I was previously told that this land was public.  Are the signs just to discourage ATV's or is this land really private.

The land is definitely private. I believe the owner lives in Southern California so does a terrible job of managing their property.
